David hanging out in Florence
This summer, I lived vicariously through David Rocco as he traversed Italy for three weeks to work on his second cookbook and scout locations for the next season of David Rocco’s Dolce Vita. Every day I’d check his Facebook fan page for the next mouth-watering update as David cooked and ate his way through Sicily, the Amalfi Coast and Florence.
If you happen to be planning a trip to Italy (or even dreaming about one in the future), take note—David often provides addresses and phone numbers for his favorite restaurants, cafes, pizzerias and enotecas (wine bars). Here are some delicious snippets from David’s most recent travels:
“Last meal at Villa Maria in Ravello before we head up to Florence. In true style they send us off right with an amazing meal. Risotto con zucca e cozze and their amazing Lemon Profiterol, and of course the Professore’s home made limoncello.”

“Spent the afternoon with my Pal Dario Cecchini. His Mac Dario Hamburgers rock! He is the butcher from the season 4 episode ‘Viva La Cicca’. Go eat meat at his place. It’s the best!”
“Having breakfast at my favorite place in Florence. Cibreo Caffe Firenze. It’s next to mercato Sant’ Ambrogio. Great cappuccino e biscotti… as well as a good place for lunch.” Sidenote: This cafe was a favorite haunt of mine, too, during a summer studying abroad in Florence.
“The Florence food tour continues….Lunch was at Enoteca Fuori Porta for their crostoni. Such a simple concept… and so many to choose from! I had two, pancetta e scamorza and brie with walnuts and honey, and then to finish lunch some Cantucci con il Vin Santo.” I can also vouch for this one! An excellent wine bar right on the Arno river. Dying to go back…Right. Now.

“Eat eat eat! My hosts Paolo e Gioia Galli and some friends decided to invite some friends over for some Pizza tonight. Buffalo mozzarella, salumi e various types of pizza. And for dessert Pizza con la Nutalla. Mmmm!”
