Emeril Visits Dallas Originals

By: Sara Levine

In The Originals, Chef Emeril Lagasse visits some cities that are well-known for their rich culinary history: Think New York and the chef’s beloved New Orleans. But this week, he’s making a less-expected stop in the Lone Star State to check out classic eats in Dallas. “Many folks don’t think Dallas is old enough to have historic restaurants,” Emeril says, “but then they don’t know the big D!”

Despite the fact that his visit coincided with a rare snowstorm, Emeril eats very well in normally sunny Dallas. He digs into Texas-sized portions of barbecue at Sonny Bryan’s, a century-old smokehouse. At El Fenix, he samples Tex-Mex fare from the place where this hybrid cuisine took roots in 1918. Cinnamon buns “the size of a catcher’s mitt” can be found at The Mecca, a North Dallas breakfast favorite since 1938.

Check out Emeril’s Dallas episode of The Originals tonight at 10:30pm/9:30c, and preview his stops in each city with The Originals Restaurant List .
