Lulu's Cream-Filled Swiss Rolls tonight on Unique Sweets
Cream-filled chocolate rolls, red velvet cake, ice-cold popsicles — tonight’s all new episode of Unique Sweets takes a look at your favorite childhood sweets, but now they’re all grown up.

Among the many irresistible sweet shops featured on tonight’s episode is NYC’s Lulu Cake Boutique. Chef/Owner Jay Muse opened the sweets shop knowing he wanted to pay homage to the decadent desserts he loved so much as a child. “I loved anything that was filled with cream or chocolate, and having the opportunity now as an adult to recreate to childhood classic and bring all those memories back, but with better ingredients and fresher quality is the best thing in the world.”

But Lulu doesn’t stop at upgraded ingredients — they add some pretty innovative twists to otherwise classic sweets. Their red velvet cake is filled with a sweet cream cheese, mascarpone and sour cream filling, coated in decadent white chocolate, and then topped with bright red sprinkles.

And then there’s the passion fruit snack cake. It’s a yellow cake filled with passion fruit curd, dipped in white chocolate, and then sprinkled with white chocolate shavings. Each bite gives way to a truly unique textural experience, from the soft, gooey curd, to the spongy yellow cake, and finally the hard white chocolate coating and shavings.

Owner Jay Muse gives a shout out to chocolate lovers, too. His highly popular blackout cake is a deep, dark and fudgey chocolate cake, filled with rich chocolate pudding, and coated in even more dark chocolate.
