Beer Donuts

Chocolate, glazed, coconut, creme-filled, or flavored with amber ale — it doesn't matter. Today's National Doughnut Day and we're celebrating them all.

From homemade beauties to a run-through of our Pix Potluck backlog, we're honoring the day of the doughnut with a round-up of our favorite doughnut love from Cooking Channel and beyond.

The bulk of your doughnut-loving childhood may have revolved around visits to Dunkin' Donuts, but don't forget that the fried treats are even better at home. We put out the call on Twitter for pics from fans of great-looking, homemade donuts...

@collegiatecook:   @CookingChannel Homemade doughnuts are the way to go! In fact, I celebrated my engagement w/ 'em: http://bit.ly/j9Vzm3

And...  @JenniferPerillo:   @CookingChannel Oh my, if only it wasn't so hot. I'd love to fry up a batch to fill with homemade strawberry jam.

Now that you mention it, us too, Jennifer, us too.

A quick stroll through our Pix Potluck backlog only intensified out doughnut craving further. Among the culprits were these guys, which we just can't seem stop looking at:

Donut Backlog

Katalin Eisenberg shared the photo of her Bauernkrapfen doughnuts on our Facebook wall a while back, and it's still gu-gu-gu-got us day-dreaming about the wonderful world of deep-fright delights.

Over on Food2, Jessica Hulett gave her own shout out to cool doughnut content from around the web, including the lowdown on where to find free doughnuts and how to use them as a burger bun

Feeling inspired?  Make your own doughnut this weekend!

I can't get enough of sour cherries! Growing up in Ohio, I'd spend the first half of June up in the cherry tree, reaching for every last make-you-pucker fruit. Even with my "one for the bucket, two for me" mentality, my family ended up with loads of cherries that we'd make into pies, jam, cobblers, muffins and more.
