Ever wish you could travel the world, feeding your appetite for international cuisine one country at a time? After graduating culinary school, Eden Grinshpan spent seven years exploring the globe, eating her way across the map. We know — we’re jealous, too.
Once back stateside, Eden longed for the varied flavors and rich stories she consumed while traveling. But she soon realized she didn’t need a passport, because a world’s worth of flavors are in her — and your — backyard. They don’t call it the “melting pot” for nothin’.
Eden sets out to uncover the culinary diversity right here in our great nation. In Eden Eats: Austin, premiering Sunday, July 17th at 8:00pm, she takes a bite out of Austin, Texas. Sure, the city’s known for its music scene, BBQ and Tex-Mex food, but did you know that its residents speak over 50 languages? From Mexican, to Filipino, Ethiopian, Hungarian and beyond, Austin boasts a lengthy list of international restaurants and food establishments. How many can Eden visit in 24 hours?
Eden enjoys Gorditos with Chorizo at Pueblo Viejo, a Mexican food truck.
Follow Eden into the kitchens of immigrants who’ve set up shop in Austin, sharing their cultures and traditions within the vibrant community. She learns how to create perfectly fluffy Spaetzle at Hungarian restaurant European Bistro, stuff sausage casings to make Gorditas with Chorizo in Mexican food truck Pueblo Viejo and wield a rolling pin to make perfectly flaky Cuban Pastelitos de Queso.
The key to flaky pastries? Very tired arms.
