On Friday night, food lovers took over the cobblestoned streets of Manhattan’s Meatpacking District in search of tasty bites, good wine and a Cooking Channel star sighting or two. Stationed within a half-mile perimeter in the trendy neighborhood, Cooking Channel’s Meatpacking Uncorked was a three hour food, fashion and fun-fest that involved 50 local restaurants, food trucks and boutiques.
While shopping, attendees were able to sample wines and sparkling beverages and meet some of their favorite Cooking Channel chefs. Kelsey Nixon of Kelsey’s Essentials greeted fans at Trina Turk, Ben Sargent of Hook, Line & Dinner was stationed at Levi’s Meatpacking and Extra Virgin’s Debi Mazar and Gabriele Corcos were at the heart of it all at Diane Von Furstenberg. Lively hosts Mo Rocca and Lee Anne Wong popped by Scoop NYC Men’s and The Earnest Sewn Co.
Snacks were plentiful — as with all New York City Wine & Food Festival events — and hungry participants hopped from restaurants to food trucks to check miniature gourmet bites off their “passports.” Stand-out treats included a melt-in-your-mouth flatbread with braised oxtail and rich idiazabal cheese sauce from 5 Ninth; roasted pepper, olive and cheese crostini from Corsino; Polenta Crostini with Bolognese Ragu from Macelleria; and a sharp Cheddar, bacon and tomato grilled cheese morsel from Gorilla Cheese NYC.
But the crowd was in agreement that the mobile sweets stole the show. The Treats Truck offered Mexican Brownies and a Pecan Butterscotch Bar, and our traveling entourage of Cooking Channel and Food Network employees agreed the Pecan Bar was the best thing we’d tasted all night. Others flocked to the Sweet Street Desserts truck, where eager eaters were fighting over the last chocolate chip blondies, leaving pecan and berry tarts behind.
At the end of the night, the crowd gathered at Villa Pacri for the official Cooking Channel Uncorked Party, for more food, wine, dancing, and we imagine, comparing tasting notes of the night’s traveling menu.
