Have a Bloody Good Halloween

true blood drink
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to drink Tru Blood, now’s your chance to find out. The drink, based off of the hit True Blood series on HBO, isn’t exactly the same as the synthetic blood concoction vampires gulp down on the show to sustain strength, but that’s probably a good thing, right?

The blood orange carbonated drink graced store.hbo.com in 2009, but it recently became more widely available at BevMo!, the spirits and beverage specialty retailer, just in time for Halloween.

Planning a Halloween party? Pick up a pack or two before your spooky soiree and see how many people are daring enough to try a sip. For grossed out guests, though, serve up some of our favorite vampire-inspired cocktails instead.

blood sucker cocktail

Try a Blood Sucker Cocktail — shaken, not stirred. Once you’ve mixed together rum, Cointreau and pineapple juice, add blobs of strawberry and raspberry puree for an eerie finishing touch.

Part ice cream and part white crème de cacao, make a thirst-quenching Vampire Cocktail. Serve in a stemmed cocktail glass and suddenly you’ve got the perfect party accessory.

bloody brain cocktail

Channel your inner zombie with this Bloody Brain Shooter made of Bailey’s Irish Cream and strawberry vodka. Add just a splash of grenadine for proper oozing.

Or whip up a pitcher of Michael’s Bloody Marias for a spicy drink that will get your blood flowing. Think you can stand the heat? Make  jalapeno ice cubes for more pronounced flavor.

No Halloween shindig is complete without finger food to nibble between cocktails. Nigella’s Blood and Guts Potatoes are easy, fun and full of mozzarella cheese.

Make a showstopping Spider Cake centerpiece covered in nutella and chocolate buttercreams, plus a chocolate ganache spiderweb. Or put together Wicked Cupcakes in honor of True Blood’s out-of-control witch coven.
