This show couldn't have come at a better time when most people have vowed to stick with the New Year's resolution of getting fit. I am one of those people. In previewing the recipes, I believe I am going to like where this show takes us. I only have one request…when you post the lightened versions of your Mama's fabulous recipes, can you include the nutritional information with it? I would really like to see the difference in numbers between the two. I think in doing so the impact of what your trying to do would be that much more effective. Good luck! I'll be watching.

Nepotism and cronyism at The Cooking Channel? Say it ain't so! How much farther down the rabbit hole will the network executives sink? Leave the Food Network "stars" on the Food Network. I, for one, will not be watching this or the shows that bracket either side of it. We, the viewers, have been asking for "NEW" faces and/or trained chef's and this is what we get? I think it's time the network exec's stop "marketing" and start listening to the very viewers that watch the network. We are the one's that sit through the advertising and buy their products. If we stop watching, who will you advertise to? You have pretty much alienated this viewer enough to almost stop watching this channel. I can get my fill of cooking shows on PBS, Veria, Travel Channel, Wealth TV, Bravo and Create now. What are you going to do to be more original? I know, put all the Food Network sons/daughters/husbands/wives/cousins/friends/losers/castoffs/wannabes on The Cooking Channel, what an original idea.

    • jerry posted 01/04/2012

Go to the other channels if you don't want to watch. But quit complaining just go.Don't let the door hit in the as……….!

      • dauphin posted 01/04/2012

Ha Ha. Hit the "hot" button on you, you must be an exec. for Food Network. I heard they moved a bunch of you over to The Cooking Channel with a cut in pay and orders to improve the channel or else. I guess you think what they're putting on is "gold", huh? How is the channel ever going to be better without feedback. I said I was getting my viewing from other channels, didn't I? This is less advertising dollars for this network. Less people watching means less money to run better programing. It seems that this is already happening. Better get some better ideas Jerry, your network is jumping the shark.

  9. jerry posted 01/05/2012

Muhahahahah! Guess again. I am a viewer That can't stand people who do nothing but complain. Like I said not everyone shares your view so move on. Now wouldn't be soon enough.Bye Bye Now.

    • dauphin posted 01/05/2012

I want this channel to succeed. You make it sound as if you want it to fail. Less viewers means less advertising dollars equals channel fails. You want a club where everyone agrees, well that doesn't ever happen in life. So you're a viewer and you haven't any feed back for this network? They have another channel that can air personalities we already know, it's called the Food Network. It made it's bones from REAL chef's and then moved to "stars" with limited kitchen or teaching abilities that appeal to a demographic. The Food Network became all about brand and they barely have real chef's on their network any longer. That's why I was happy when Cooking Channel aired. Now I feel they are moving in the direction of the Food Network, a wrong direction in my estimation, but all I can do is post and see what will change. You've brought nothing to the discussion. Just a "don't like, don't watch it" comment that people throw out when the conversation get too "hard".

    • JLF posted 01/05/2012

I'm with Jerry. I too am a viewer, and I welcome a new show that is focused on making healthy food taste good, and good tasting food healthy. I am not interested in griping about which personalities you do or don't like, how many shows they have or any other issues you want to raise that has nothing to do with the show concept.

      • dauphin posted 01/05/2012

JLF, the concept of the show is it "stars" Bobby Deen and features "healthy" Paula Deen recipes. That is what the concept is and that is part of the problem. If you want two stations that show the same shows rather than a variety of hosts and cultural foods from around the world, then this network is doomed and their market share will be halved because people will not watch two stations with the same programing. Think MTV2. By the way, the Food Network executives don't think people learn how to cook from TV. They believe that these two networks are entertainment only. I've seen it in writing. So the exec's really don't believe you will cook healthy, they just want a familiar face hawking advertising to bring the Food Network fans over.

  10. LemorAR posted 01/05/2012

I hate all the criticism of Jamie and Bobby Deen that says they are riding on Paula Deen's heels. Those 2 boys worked very hard to help Paula start her Bag Lady business. And have continued to work hard in the Lady & Son's restaurant and support Paula in other business endeavors. There's nothing wrong with Bobby trying to branch out on his own with a new show. I will say that I am disappointed it is a show based on only trying to take Paula's southern style of cooking and turn it into healthier versions. Bobby has been on Paula's show many times making some of his own dishes. They look wonderful too. Why isn't his show about his style of cooking and then he could occasionally remake some of Paula's dishes. I think if the show is made solely on the concept of remaking Paula's high fat & high calorie comfort southern food into healhier dishes it will not succeed.

    • JLF posted 01/05/2012

I think it will find its audience, and what better timing than the new year when healthy eating resolutions are being made.

    • Gerry Greene posted 01/25/2012

Hi LemorAR, I think that Bobby has to start with his Mom's dishes and eventually he will branch out with his own style. Let's give him a chance. I think it's exciting to see him have his own show!

Bobby, I am so excited. I saw you on Rachel's show also and this is great. I love the idea of taking the Sunday out of Mon-Fri. Could you please also include more low carb Southern options as you develop new recipes? I am having a hard time doing this. My doctor wants me on a low carb diet, but as you know most of our Southern faves are loaded with carbs. I love the idea of mac and cheese with more veggies and whole wheat macaroni…that is awesome. I can't wait to see what else you are going to help us with!!!! Congrats on your awesome ideas and new show. I am a Southern girl and my hubby wants country fried steak, gravy, biscuits, mac & cheese, and mashed potatoes with every meal. This is definitely going to help both of us!!!!!

I didn't read or hear where this show is shot or supposed to be based from and I don't recognize the skyline from the shots (I'm from central Texas)… Does anyone know?

  15. jerry posted 01/05/2012

Lets kept it simple so you can understand if you don't like something don't watch. I like the shows and from what I read you seem to be the only one on this page that is not happy with things. Frankly I don't care what you bring to the table. Put your energy some place else because these views seem to love it as I do. Your remarks are very negative. A little positive would be nice.

    • dauphin posted 01/05/2012

OK Jerry and JLF, here's something positive for you. Bobby making healthy food, great. You all must be new to these pages because I've never run across either of you before. I have sent many recipes and positive feedback to this channel over the last 1 1/2 years. I have defended other chef's and lamented about crossover shows many times. This is a discussion about the Cooking Channel programing. That is why I will not go away. I've encountered similar people as yourself when commenting on why Bobby Flay and Rachael Ray should stay on FOOD NETWORK also. There is a network already promoting them. Shouldn't we get new faces on the NEW channel? Please wander on over to The Best of Cooking Channel 2011 blog on this same site. You will see others that are upset at their programing also. Join that fight, otherwise you are just Deen/Food Network fans coming over from their home page through a link.

  16. jerry posted 01/06/2012

You mean ran in to normal folk who have a life. Maybe you should try life sometime. Take a deep breath and think about what is good and important. You are wasting your energy on something you can't change. Use your efforts where they will matter. You write a whole lot of words and say a whole lot of nothing. Sometime being quiet is good and just maybe you might learn something.Don't you agree JLF.

    • dauphin posted 01/06/2012

You are the one wasting energy. I have written that I will not go away. Cover your eyes and ears and cry "Go away!" all you like but people change things all the time. Do I want everything on Cooking Channel my way, not a chance but that doesn't mean I can't post all I want on this blog, good or bad. You write that I ran in to normal people. Yep, it seems like normal people just want what they want and accept everything except criticism. Oh, some one complains and you get your knickers in a twist. Wow. Come on I want to hear why you love Bobby Deen and are all excited by his new show. You just want me to go away, but have still not learned that a successful retort would help your cause greatly. The only thing you have written in all the posts here is "I love it" and "Go away if you don't like it". It seems our public education system is working, you can't even write back reasons why you are enamoured with this show. Your side would lose this argument because nothing has been given as facts from you. Reread my points, there are many. You have none.

I just found out about your show two days and immediately hit the record series button on my DVR. We are a very busy family and for me to record a show is a great honor. I was not disappointed either. I am so excited about what you are doing. I have been trying to do the same with me grandmothers recipes for years. Being raised in Louisiana, "light" food is nonexistent. So I am so thrilled you started this show. The first show I watched you featured pimento cheese sandwiches. I decided that was lunch on my holiday. Wonderful idea. Good Luck with show! I hope it continues on for a long time.

Please tell your Momma, Paula not to listen to any negative comments made about her regarding her "failure to be honest about her diabetes". It took me just as long to admit to my own self that I had been diagnosed with this disease. I am so happy to see that my favorite "Kitchen Momma" is now taking us with her on the road to recovery. Folks can make up their own minds which version of each recipe they choose to follow.

I look forward to this "healthy" show. Good job, Bobby. I never watch Paula’s shows because the majority of my 61 years of life has been fighting obesity. She was obese and pushing fat foods. Drug companies are draining our pocketbooks on a daily basis and her alignment with one of them puts a bad taste in my mouth – but hey, it is what it is. If she continues losing weight and eating healthy, she (most likely) won’t be taking the drug anymore. It’s a medical fact that (the majority ) of obese people who are Type II diabetics don’t need insulin or drugs after they lose the weight. Wonder if she will continue to “lie to us by omission” if she stops taking THEIR drug?

I am so glad that the Dean Family continues to thrill and inspire today's cooks. Your talent and comfort in the meal preparation vennue speak volumes to support your care and interest in the masses. As a diabetic and a bariatic individual, I have a full plate(sorry the reference but I couldn't help myself) food issues but have spent the last few years trying to convince others with similar issues that neither issue means food has to be dull or tasteless. Further, just because you have had bariatric surgery or you are a diabetic doesn't mean you can't have pleasure in holiday meals and get-togethers. Many individuals I have encountered through my support groups feel that they have to cook two or three different meals in order to satisify others and eat according to their individual needs. I have embraced the challenge and welcome your adventure into this realm as another resource to continue my journey toward healthy and flavorful eating equalling full enjoyment for all. Thanks to all of the Dean Family and especially to you Bobby. Best of luck!!!!!

put one single ""Pimento"" in it? I thought pimento cheese spread had red hot pimento in it and
