The Four Coursemen: Back for Adventure

 Four Coursemen Adventure

The Four Coursemen are five Food Person friends from Athens, GA who share a passion for creating delicious meals with local, sustainable ingredients.

You might remember them from their exploits last year, but now they’re back for adventure!

In The Four Coursemen Adventure, airing Sunday @ 8pm, this brave epicurean quintet will take on a risky mission.

The challenge: these five friends will only have 48 hours to source, create, cook, and serve a five-course meal to thirty hungry diners.

Oh – and they’ll have no idea where in the US they’ll be cooking until two hours before they catch their plane. That’s what we call an adventure!

Four Coursemen On The Road

Away they ago!

The Coursemen are comprised of Matt, whose expertise is meats; Patrick, who specializes in seafood, soups and sauces; Eddie, who is a master of charcuterie and sauces, but has a passion for pastry; Damien, the pasta ace, with an affinity for desserts; and Nancy, a whiz at pairing wine, beer and cocktails.

Their food is always delicious, local, and unique: Goat Cheese Ice Cream, anyone?

The Four Coursemen in the Kitchen

The Coursemen plotting their next delicious move.

The Four Coursemen Plating

Plating begins - and is looking awesome.

Wow… Ok I have been waiting over a year for this show and this is what came of it. The first Four Coursemen show last year was incredible. Good story, Great meal, informative about the local food movement, (Which I know I am not the only one interested in that information) Now why, Why Cooking channel do you have to turn this into one of the many food competition race for the clock type of shows. You had gold!!! I believe the first show even was nominated for a James Beard award!!! Why the change? and now you are doing what every other show does. It is now almost a game show. The silver pig telling them where they are going next. Come on That is lame!!. This is awful. I will not be tuning into this again. Bring back the original. WE DON"T NEED ANOTHER CRAPPY COMPETITION RACE AGAINST THE CLOCK SHOW!!! Please bring back some good programming.

I just read all of the reviews so far and I agree with everything that has been said except comparing these guys to Rachel or Guy. Those two are just as bad as Emeril. That being said I also saw the first show which was wonderful and I respond to this comment because I feel like Ms Bower does have a valid point. I loved everything about the first show beautifully shot, cool subject and just a totally different look compared to the other programming on the channel. I was was happy to hear (through this blog )that it was nominated for The Beard Award. It was worth it. I was shocked to see that they never had another show until now.

I am a foodie and I have been fortunate to find some of these underground dinner parties and I love them. I especially love what the Coursemen are doing. I like supporting the local agriculture. Local food is very important (as well as knowing where your food comes from) and there needs to be more positive and informative shows to educate the watching public. I feel like compared to the first show which I personally thought was smart and really well done that Cooking Channel really dumbed down this show to make it for a less educated audience. There is a reason it was nominated guys!!! I agree with Ms Bower about why have a “race against a clock” and a lot of drama same as everything else show. why not try to break the mold and do something different something important. It was recognized by others so why change. I feel like the idea from the other press I have now read about the Coursemen that this special kind of missed the point of what these guys are about.

I do agree with Margurite that the language that the group used was a little vulgar and rude and although I am not Mother Theresa, I do agree with her grandmother. You need to learn how to talk with out having to use an explicative every other word. Please Cooking Channel, put this show back in the original format. It was great.

  2. Marguerite Angley posted 01/09/2012

I am watching the show at 12 AM on January 9th. They aren't 'coursemen', they are COARSEMEN. Vulgar, irritating chatting, controversy, and nothing that was informative at all. I lived in Colorado for 10 years and yes, the testicles eaten there are for real, but seldom eaten by the locals unless there's a roundup to deball the bull calves. They are, so to speak, seasonal. But that isn't what teed me off. The rude conversation, vulgar language, and discourteous give and take, were totally offputting. Totally gross and disenchanting, and totally 180 degrees off from the usual excellent food shows. These rowdy men cannot begin to compare to Guy, Rachel, or the other more inventive and civilized folks. Is there no polite and expressive skill left in the population. My grandmother said often, 'If you can't express yourself without crudity and vulgarity, then keep your mouth shut. Those men need education in civility.
    '

To Marguerite Angley, despite that you lived in Colorado for 10 years, or anywhere for that matter, I imagine that your knowledge of local, sustainable food is quiet limited. The fact that you are comparing these five talented individuals to the likes of Guy or Rachel, speaks volumes to your culinary knowledge. Those two wouldn't know sustainability if it slapped them in the face. What you call uncivilized, I call a real passion for amazing food.
Thank you to The Cooking Channel for airing such a breath of fresh air in programming. In the days of reality overload where people are looking to fall in love quickly, or dance and sing their way to stardom, it is refreshing to see true, raw talent expressed in something that matters. Thank you for recognizing local purveyors and farmer's markets as a source of healthy, sustainable food rather than unhealthy fast food options and random grocery stores. I believe that you are sitting on a gem of a show, and something that is very unique to all of the boring, over rehearsed cooking shows out there. I love that not only can you see great recipes in the making by Eddie, Matt, Patrick and Damien, and great wine selections by Nancy, but you also learn about great produce and wonderful cuts of meats from these guys as well.
For those of us who really love great food and wine, and are bored with the majority of the cooking shows out there, The Four Coursemen's Adventures is just for us! Please continue this show! I know that those of us who really appreciate good food and wine, and not cheesy personalities will really appreciate it.

  4. Betty posted 01/09/2012

To compare The Four Coursemen to Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-in's and Dives is quiet insulting. How do you compare wholesome, local sustainable food to the likes of burgers, fries, meatloaf and nacho's? And we wonder why America is struggling with obesity and why our kids are being slapped up on billboards across America to bring light to overweight children.
Thank you to The Cooking Channel for bringing real talent to TV. I believe that these guys were nominated for a James Beard Award, and it truly shows by their creativity and understanding of good food. I have actually had the opportunity to experience several of their dinners in Athens, and I can tell you that each time was something unique, fresh and delicious. It was never the same thing twice, and you can tell that these guys really put their heart into what they do. They have a real love for food and it is expressed in each meal, AND the fact that space for a seating at a meal goes quickly. Nancy is fun, knowledgeable and experienced with wine. She has always selected just the perfect wine with each course.
I hope that you chose to continue this show. It will be well worth it!

This show might be one of the best on The Cooking Channel … actually nothing else comes to mind so I'm gonna say it IS the best. It's been said before but bears worth repeating, this group along with the production are a breath of fresh air. Their passion, knowledge and skill really shines.

But I can't believe there are only two episodes … how about turning this into a series, Cooking Channel??!!

  6. Jason posted 01/11/2012

I had the pleasure of viewing The Four Coursemen and I think The Cooking Channel has a future hit on their hands. This show is different than other cooking shows that I've seen in the past. Sure you can get any old celebrity cook and sit in a kitchen and tell me how to cook for the housewives in my neighborhood. I want to see something new and fresh. The Coursemen bring a different thing to the "table". It provides cooking, travel and human interest. It's showing the audience a new way of looking at food, wine and entertaining and the Coursemen deliver it in a way that is different than the rest. Traveling to Colorado and showing the audience what types of local flavor can be enjoyed if you have an open mind and a little creativity is good TV to me. THey have such a passion for food and I think it really shows. This show needs to continue and I want to see what other types of adventures The Four Coursemen find themselves in.

This is one of the best things on cooking channel. I agree with everyone who commented on being tired of the "race against the clock" aspect of food television. Just give us some honest, informative, imaginative and good television and stop with all the manufactured drama. Aside from that aspect of the show, I was really excited to see that this was back. I too have been waiting to see another show with this crew since last year when the original aired. I think what makes this show better than most is that you don't have "TV personalities" that are over the top or pandering to be loved. I know a couple of these guys are real deal chefs and I think showing stuff like this to avid home cooks, such as myself, is far more inspiring and exciting than the three recipe, 30 minute show format, other hour "special" episodes you have run or other networks shows that aim to "eat a massive amount of stuff". Please consider making more of this, I think it is good and important food television. Cooking Channel has the unique opportunity to direct food culture in America to a better place, and I believe shows like this can do just that. Make more please!

I really like the idea of the Four Coursemen and can't tell you how excited I am to see them back in any capacity. The ideas and what they represent along with five honest and genuine personalities are refreshing and I hope this show continues. Cheers!

The Four Coursemen's concept of seeking out local food producers across the country offers a unique perspective on what wholesome, sustainable consumption is all about. Sure, they put together a gourmet meal with unfamiliar ingredients and by all accounts, knocked it out of the park. What I enjoyed most about this show is that it is not just about cooking delicious meals – every food show on television can do that, but it is about the benefits of sustainable living and making it known that these producers are abundant and usually much more accessible than we think.

Those who preferred the original pilot certainly have valid arguments. However, despite the minor changes, the show does maintain it's unique angle on culinary entertainment and I am looking forward to seeing more.

Very refreshing. I enjoy the concept and didn't mind the over used time factor. I don't understand any of the qualms of vulgarity in the show. Have you ever been in a kitchen? Its always a lively environment where language can get a little rough. The show didn't cross the line or use vulgar language just for the sake of being vulgar. I am very intrigued in seeing which locations are chosen. I am hoping they choose some obscure places rather than the overdone major cities

Just learned about the new show. Saw it last night, a week late, and found it extremely enjoyable and well done. Different format then before, but good. I would love to see more. Keep up the good work.

Fantastic! This version of the show was so enjoyable to watch and the characters were so dynamic. I love the idea of setting out on an adventure in order to cook a meal. It is really nice to have a show on TV that is wholesome, a show that I can sit down and watch and really connect with.
