Thirsty Thursday: Bourbon Tea Punch with Citrus Ice Cubes

By: Roberto Ferdman
Bourbon Tea Punch

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too. A hard thing to disagree with, we know. Drink up, get down and go to sleep happy.

Toast to tea when you're winding down this evening with a glass that takes the English breakfast variety and pairs it with fresh fruit, brandy and bourbon. Full to the brim with bright citrus, like orange, lemon and lime, it's exactly the sort of drink you'll want when in need of a little late in the day pick-me-up. Plus, the individually frozen citrus slices mean the ice cubes double as colorful garnishes.

That's right, tea time just got serious.

Bottoms up, folks.

Make about 2 quarts

Ingredients:

1 lime, quartered and sliced

1 orange, quartered and sliced

3 cups apple juice
2 cups strong-brewed iced tea, preferably English breakfast

1 1/2 cups bourbon

1 cup brandy

1/4 cup fresh lemon juice

3 strips orange zest

3 strips lemon zest

Directions:

Divide the lime and orange slices among the cups of a 12-cup silicone muffin pan. Fill the cups with water and let freeze completely.

Combine the apple juice, tea, bourbon, brandy, lemon juice and zests in a punch bowl. Add the citrus ice cubes.
