In Sweet Home: Over 100 Heritage Desserts and Ideas, food writer Rebecca Miller Ffrench shares how baking sweet treats can be nurturing, loving and caring, recalling and creating lasting memories. Her family has a long dessert-loving tradition, from her grandparents’ remembered nighttime sweets routine to her mother who always had an after-dinner treat waiting. And she carries the tradition on, making dessert for her own children regularly. Sweet Home is a collection of Rebecca’s family recipes, along with ideas and inspiration for preserving your own family’s recipes and starting your own traditions. It’s a beautiful and sentimental cookbook everyone (especially Mom!) is sure to enjoy.

Chocolate crepes filled with raspberry marscapone cheese and lemon raspberry sauce
My favorite family recipe is a Neapolitan cake. Traditionally, in my family, it's made when a new baby is born, and once the gender is known that determines the color of the icing. Back in the day, nobody knew until the baby was born, so there was always a rush to get the cake done right — and the cake itself takes over a day to make!
Mother's Peach Cobbler! I make it with peaches OR peaches and raspberries OR blueberries – it's easy and fantastic!
My favorite family dessert recipe is capirotada. It's a sweet Mexican bread pudding made with cheese, raisins, walnuts, and spicy syrup that we make during Lent. It looks really, really ugly but it's delicious!
apple crisp!
My mom's not the best cook, but she makes an awesome Jewish Apple Cake. I can eat the entire cake in one day!
I was told a recipe by my husband's cousin that was super easy. Caramel Pie! It uses two cans of sweetened condensed milk boiled for a few hours until it turns to caramel. Pour out of the can into the graham crust and top with a meringue. Pop into oven to get some color on the meringue and you're done!
Sound great! I would like to try this. How long do you boil the sweetened condensed milk? How many is a few hours?
My mom's blackberry strawberry with mascarpone cheese tamales are amazing. They are sweet and just delicious. I have to force myself to stop eating them.
My grandmother's chocolate chip cookies!

When my 4 daughters were at home, we made hand-cranked ice cream a lot, as much for the activity as for the ice cream. Now, I live alone and the dogs, cats, and I enjoy sitting to watch the automatic self-refrigerated ice cream maker spin itself into a treat (which animals get to share by the teaspoon-ful).
I think it is either my lemon squares recipe or my banana cake with cream cheese frosting recipe
