Thirsty Thursday: The Hemingway Daiquiri

The Hemingway Daiquiri

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too. A hard thing to disagree with, we know. Drink up, get down and go to sleep happy.

Ernest Hemingway traveled long and far in his lifetime, but only one destination drastically altered the writer’s drinking habits. Long story short, Cuba and its rum-soaked daiquiris will always hold a place in Hemingway’s liver. On a particularly parched evening, he is even reputed to have thrown back a whopping 16 of them.

It’s National Daiquiri Day, and there’s only one way to celebrate: with a Hemingway Daiquiri. Made with white rum, fresh grapefruit juice, maraschino liqueur and lime, pouring a few glasses of this refreshing favorite is only fitting. Raise a toast to the classic Caribbean cocktail with this tasty variation, mixed up by Marshall Altier of New York City’s JBird Cocktails.

Bottoms up, folks.
