Keep the salad chilled until you leave for your outdoor destination.
As one of summer’s most-requested salads, Chuck Hughes’ seven-ingredient version has an Asian-inspiration. Toss broccoli with sesame oil, ginger, soy sauce, chili flakes and garlic for a dish with just the right amount of kick. Don’t cook too long, because the broccoli should still maintain its crispy texture.
Stay away from the jar. Homemade salsa with ripe Roma tomatoes, like this version from Alton Brown, will blow that store-bought stuff away. From garlic to jalapenos and any add-ins of your choice, this salsa will be a complete crowd-pleaser.
Kelsey Nixon’s Pressed Picnic Sandwich with Roasted Red Pepper and Pepperoncini Spread was made for big groups. Prep the ciabatta sandwich a day ahead to let the flavors marinate together. At your picnic simply unwrap and slice into single serving portions.
5. No-Bake Cream Cheese Peanut Butter Pie
Still want your sweets but don’t want to sweat over the oven? Nadia G. made this no-bake dessert that is just dying to be served at a picnic.
