Call the Doctor: KFC Japan Creates Deep-Fried Soup

When most people think of soup, they think of warm and healthy nourishment on a cold winter’s night. They imagine sitting around the fireplace, wrapped in a Snuggie and slurping it timidly. They do not, however, think of chomping into a deep-fried husk of artery-clogging awesomeness.

KFC Japan, who are no strangers to culinary kookiness, have unveiled a deep-fried soup product that they will begin serving later this month. The soup is a deep-fried version of a popular Japanese staple called corn potage, which is essentially corn chowder. The wizards at KFC Japan bread it and then dip it in scalding hot oil, thus turning it into a kind of corn fritter.

It will only be available for a limited time, so get those plane tickets ready. It’s either that or you can try dipping a glop of minestrone into vegetable oil and seeing what happens.
