How to Throw a Breaking Bad Finale Party

Like so many of its predecessors — Lost, Six Feet Under and The X-Files, to name a few — Breaking Bad has introduced a cast of characters so intricate, complex and badass that we can’t help rooting for even the most fallible of main characters. As much as we’re mourning the loss of one of TV’s greatest dramas, we’re super psyched to see how the final episode plays out.

Follow these simple steps, so this Sunday won’t just mark the swan song of your favorite TV show; it will also mark the day you threw the greatest theme party your friends have ever attended.

Food

Aside from party snacks, dips and some nibbles to keep everyone happily noshing, fried chicken is an obvious choice here — as a nod to Gustavo Fring and his chicken empire/meth manufacturing front, Los Pollos Hermanos. Fry up your own chicken using this simple recipe, or just buy a couple of buckets from your local fried chickenry, print out the image above and glue them to the buckets.

We don’t suggest you serve eggs and veggie bacon at your party.

We also suggest you cook up some sliders, throwing in a few veggie patties for your less carnivorous friends, and stick a sign in front of them calling them “Heisenbergers.” Boom. Themed party food. Or how about some “Sloppy Jane” Sliders as a nod to Jesse Pinkman’s dearly departed ex? Too vulgar?

Booze

Aside from a few bottles of wine and a cooler filled with beer (bonus points for printing and affixing this label to all the bottles), a blue cocktail that mimics the color of Mr. White’s famous product is a must. Keep in mind that this is pretty much the only time we ever encourage you to serve such a unnaturally-hued cocktail. But since we’re going with a theme here, we’ll allow it.

Below is our very own Breaking Bad cocktail, made with yerbe mate tea (a natural stimulant which we swear is on par with the stuff that came out of Heisenberg’s lab, only, ya know, legal), and a spicy simple syrup using chili pepper (a nod to Jesse Pinkman’s secret ingredient in his pre-Walter White product).

Alie & Georgia’s Breaking Bad Cocktail

Yield: 1 drink

Ingredients
2 oz reposado tequila or mezcal
1/2 oz blue curacao
1/2 oz chili pepper simple syrup (recipe below)
3/4 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
2 oz brewed yerba mate tea, cooled

Directions
To make the chili powder simple syrup heat 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water and 1 tablespoon chili powder over low heat until simmering. Set aside to cool.

Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake until combined and well chilled. Pour into an ice-filled glass and toast to addictive substances!

Dessert

If you, like us, don’t possess the mad fondant skillz needed to create the cake above (made by our friend Erin McGathy*) don’t fret. For a Breaking Bad-themed dessert spread, blue rock candy is your BFF. You can make your own using this easy recipe from Sugar Hero, or buy a huge bag from a candy store and use it to top cupcakes, cookies, and even use it as table decorations
* Check out the hashtag #UglyCakesByMcGathy on Instagram for more of her insanely rad cake work.

Using blue food coloring to tint rice krispie treats can also be fun, or you can go the easy route by utilizing the iconic periodic table symbols:

We have a strong suspicion that Sunday night’s final episode of Breaking Bad is not going to end well for our friends Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. Luckily for your friends, the only vendetta you have is against boring, bland parties. We hope your soiree is much like Heisenberg’s product: 100% pure awesomeness.
