This Camera Calculates Calories Based on Pictures of Food

Have you ever wished that scientists would hurry up already and invent something that could figure out how many calories a cheeseburger had just by snapping a picture of it? Your wish may soon be fulfilled.

Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh are developing clothing embedded with tiny cameras that perform that very function. The cameras use advanced 3d-modeling technology to determine how many calories there are in that slice of meat-lovers pizza you’ve been eyeing. They also measure out accurate portion sizes so you can assess how many slices of said pizza you should realistically eat. Yay technology!

Don’t worry: This tech is in its nascent stages and probably won’t show up on actual clothing for a decade or so. In the meantime, before robot overlords begin telling us what we can’t eat, let’s eat all of the burgers.
