Japan's Notorious "Maid Cafes" Head to New York City

Japan has some things the rest of the world doesn't, like deep-fried soup. Also, an affinity for something called 'maid cafes.' These eateries are similar to the kinds of coffee shops we frequent, with one key difference. The all-female staff dress like maids and dote on the male clientele, even going as far as to address them as master. Yikes? Yikes. Now these notorious dens of otaku have made their way stateside.

Go to the appropriately named NY Maid Cafe in New York City for the lattes and selection of curries. Stay for the giggly ladies dressed as maids that literally skip away with your order. Other than that, it seems to be a fairly toned down version of what is available in Japan.

If you are, uh, curious you can head over to NYC's Chinatown and check it out for yourself. I can't help but wish, however, that we would have gotten the other kind of Japanese novelty cafe.
