We're in for a long, hot summer. So to stave off heat stroke, we're bringing you our favorite summer treats each week as part of Frozen Friday, giving you the scoop on our favorite ice-cold recipes and party ideas to help you stay cool all summer long.

Great things come from Canada: maple syrup, peanut butter, Ryan Gosling, Alex Trebek, hockey (we guess), and among many other things, NANAIMO BARS. Not enough Americans know about this ridiculously delicious and easy-to-make treat from our northern neighbors. With a nutty cracker bottom, cold creamy center and melted chocolate topping, this is a perfect summer treat to introduce to the people of our nation... just in time for the 4th. America is a land of pioneers after all.

1. Classic Nanaimo Bars Cooking Classy puts a slight twist on the traditional crust by mixing pecan cookie pieces with the shredded coconut and graham crackers (pictured above).

2. Mint Nanaimo Bars: Amp up your summertime cool with  drops of peppermint extract and green coloring, from  Flourishing Foodie.

3. Nutella Nanaimo Bars Sweet Twist of Blogging uses a chocolate cookie crumb bottom and Nutella cream center for this rich, triple-chocolate variety.

4. White Chocolate Key Lime Nanaimo Bars: With the addition of macadamia nuts, lime juice and white chocolate,  Parsley, Sage & Sweet transforms the conventional holiday bar into a summertime staple.

5. Raspberry Mocha Nanaimo Bars A Whisk and Two Wands makes some simple swaps to create these magical gluten-free and vegan bars with a kicky espresso bottom and sweet raspberry center.

6. Reverse Nanaimo Bars: Put it in reverse and trust the homeland with this topsy-turvy version made with a coconut, white chocolate bottom, rich, dark chocolate middle and white chocolate topping, from  Canadian Living.
