Boston is the largest city in New England, attracting millions of visitors every year. It has an astounding amount of history and museums, as well as famous schools. The restaurant scene is just as lively, and you can find just about any cuisine imaginable, but make sure you try local specialties like seafood, baked beans and chowder.

What I love about chefs Eric Gburski and Brian Poe is that they want to build a community around their food. They’re strong believers in the Southern food movement, and the space proves it. I had a wonderful time at Estelle’s and recommend anyone to try the awesome brunch!

Highland Kitchen can be found in Somerville, a neighborhood outside of Boston that young professionals call home. I can see why the space gets packed every night, because it has every ingredient for a great night and unique dishes like the curried goat stew.

Darryl’s Corner Bar & Kitchen is the perfect spot for locals to grab a drink, unwind and listen to live music. For a visitor it makes for great people-watching and a way to see the neighborhood in a different way. I loved the drinks and catfish tacos, and I’m sure you will, too.

Chef Barry Maiden is originally from Virginia. Hungry Mother in Cambridge is all about him taking his Southern roots to created no-frills comfort food like boiled peanuts, crispy soft-shell crab and cast-iron chicken. Recently he opened up another location, called State Park. Both are great college hangout spots.

M3 stands for the classic “meat and three.” The modern name is perfect for the concept, which is a revamp of soulful Southern food. Owner Jason Owens is the name behind a number of Boston comfort restaurants, and this Somerville spot is making waves.

Tupelo can be found in Inman Square in Cambridge and is the creation of three talented individuals with a love for Louisiana cooking. Locals love the comforts of the South, especially during the cold weather, and fan favorites include pimento cheese, fried oysters and Cajun gumbo.
