Match the Right Steak to Your Dad's Personality For Father's Day

It's time to think long and hard about the perfect steak to grill for dad with our easy personality match-up.

New York strip or filet mignon is usually a hit for a crowd, but when you're grilling for a special person in your life, you want to make sure it's the right cut for him. With Father's Day right around the corner, it's time to think long and hard about the perfect  steak to grill for him, and we're here to help with an easy personality match-up.

For example, if your pop is super frugal, go for a flash-grilled skirt steak, but if he likes a taste of decadence, splurge for a bone-in rib eye or porterhouse. Check out all of our matches below, then get to grilling.

If your dad doesn't want you to spend the big bucks on him, try Grilled Skirt Steak. It should be served medium-rare alongside a flavorful sauce like chimichurri and can also be made into quick tacos with salsa and tortillas.

Daddy Warbucks: Prime Rib-Eye Steak

A filet mignon is an easy go-to, but for something even more decadent and special, try a bone-in rib eye. The perfectly marbled prime rib is melt-in-your-mouth on its own, and is further elevated with a Parmesan-mustard crust or a savory bearnaise sauce. And hey, it's a good way to treat yourself while treating Dad.

Hipster Central: Dry-Aged Porterhouse

If your dad (or your husband) acts like he's straight out of  Portlandia, shell out for a dry-aged porterhouse. It's a combination of a New York strip and a filet mignon and can be served simply or with some sort of grilled ramps and heirloom carrots.

Southern Charmer: Blackened T-Bone Steak

Everything's bigger in Texas, so if your pop is from down South, be sure to grill him up a massive T-bone steak. This recipe from Man Fire Food's Roger Mooking is Cajun-blackened, but you can also just throw it on the fire after sprinkling it with salt and pepper.

Adventurous Foodie: Beef Heart

If your dad  loves to try new things and is first in the door at every new restaurant, try out a surprising cut like Grilled Beef Heart with Roasted Golden Beets and Horseradish. It will be a Father's Day he'll never forget.
