Tomorrow at sundown, Jews around the world will observe Hanukkah, the festival of lights. They will say prayers over the menorah, exchange festive presents and spin a mean dreidel. And they will eat lots of latkes.

Eating fried foods is an essential part of Hanukkah tradition and potato pancakes are often the dish of choice. In this recipe, Chuck cleverly serves his latkes with roasted vegetables and a fried egg to create a complete (albeit not Kosher) meal. Enjoy. And Happy Hanukkah!

While slow cookers may seem like the only option for getting a good meal on the table by dinnertime, there is another, equally outstanding, route. And it’s silly simple: Just make your meal ahead.

Chinese food expert Ching-He Huang’s boldly flavored Radish and Sesame Noodles are meant to be served chilled. In fact, Huang even specifies that the noodles’ flavors will be better the day after they’re made. Prep these the night before (or morning of) the day you plan on enjoying them, then simply come home to dinner.

Suffering from a case of the meh-days? No surprise there; we’re all recovering from this holiday weekend’s massive amount of food and intense family time.

Don’t sweat seasonal overload — fight back against it with salad. Specifically, this kale and mango salad which is artfully studded with pepitas for crunch and protein. As you work the dressing into the greens (hence the salad’s name), the kale will begin to wilt and lose its bitterness (while remaining hearty enough to feel like a satisfying meal). You’ll likely want to repeat throughout the holidays (between the big roasts and the pies).

The only thing that doesn’t make sense about most tarts is that they’re not served until the end of the meal. What about their flaky, buttery, wondrous crust would make people want to hold out until after the main course to enjoy such a treat? I have no idea. Fortunately, the occasional savory tart can step in as the table’s centerpiece, like this parsnip and apple tarte tatin. As beautiful to behold as it is easy to execute, this stunning dish calls for roasting mellow parsnips and onions atop rosemary-flecked apples. Salty Parmesan cheese rounds out the dish, ensuring that no bite is too sweet or too savory. And if it seems odd to be eating a tarte for dinner, feel free to enjoy a big salad for dessert.

Soup season has officially started. And while we love our hearty chilies and simmered-for-hours stews as much as ever, they’re not exactly easy to throw together in a flash. This brilliant recipe has just 15 minutes of prep and uses leftover baked potatoes, which both cuts down on cooking time and lets you use things in your fridge. Its velveteen finish and comforting flavors are amplified with buttermilk, sour cream and Parmesan cheese. Garnish the bowl with chives just before serving — they’ll add a hint of onion-y flavor and make for a beautiful presentation.
