Thirsty Thursday: Peanut Butter and Jealous Much?

Peanut Butter and Jealous Cocktail

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too.

Last week we shared our adult’s only riff on the Shamrock Shake; this week we’re back with a cocktail best served alongside your favorite childhood snack.

Do you ever find yourself feeling nostalgic for those awkward elementary school days? Do you long to spread Skippy Peanut Butter, the smooth kind, and Smucker’s Grape Jelly on country white bread? The bad news is you have peanut butter and jelly sandwich withdrawal syndrome. Peanut butter and jelly what? Just an highly unscientific term we made up. Nothing serious, no need to fret. It’s easily curable and you haven’t heard the good news: you can have that peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and drink it, too.

8 Aphrodisiacs You Aren’t Tired of Hearing About

Melon Salad

Asparagus? Spare us the fuss. Caviar, you too. And oysters? You may have stirred things up in the past, but it’s really starting to get old — the whole I’m-the-only-aphrodisiac-anyone-ever-thinks-about thing. Even chocolate, well… Ok, so maybe not chocolate, but surely you see what we’re getting at here. The same list of libido-inspiring foods, unleashed year after year, has grown stale. It’s no secret that spontaneity is the key ingredient to any recipe for romance, so play it cool this Valentine’s Day and beyond with eight fresh alternatives to the old, standard stuff.

Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines…

Thirsty Thursday: Adult Shamrock Mint Shake

Adult Shamrock Mint Shake

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too. A hard thing to disagree with, we know. Drink up, get down and go to sleep happy.

For the first time in, well, ever, McDonald’s will be serving its coveted and crazy-evasive Shamrock Shake at every one of it’s 14,000 U.S. branches. Considering our love for all things green, made with ice cream and Irish, we simply had to join the folks at the Huffington Post and Gothamist in celebration. There are many takeaways to be had from such a momentous announcement — requisite visit(s) to your nearest Mickey D’s for a minty, vanilla-y shake being the first, of course — but consider this: What if it was alcoholic? What if the Shamrock Shake were…spiked? Fortunately for, well, everyone we asked that timely question long ago. The result? Something we like to call The Irish Pirate. Bottoms up, folks.

Thirsty Thursday: 4 Super Bowl-Inspired Cocktails

Super Bowl Cocktail recipes

From left to right: The Brady Bomb, The Manning Special, The Gronk and The Big Blue (in the tall martini glass).

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too.

Last week we shared a recipe for a A Beer and a Ball; this week we’re teaming up with Wine Director Anjoleena Griffin-Holst of the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa to get you ready for the Super Bowl with not one, two or three… but four new drink recipes inspired by Sunday’s showdown.

Starting with a variation on the classic Manhattan cocktail, a blueberry garnish and splash of vermouth help round off The Big Blue, an ode to the Giants franchise and their decorated history. Or opt for The Manning Special instead, inspired by the Giant’s quarterback and his cool, calm and collected demeanor. If you’re rooting for the Patriots, try The Brady Bomb, an explosive and game-changing cocktail made with cherry vodka, Red Bull energy drink and grenadine syrup, or go for The Gronk, named after their prolific tight end and towering with tequila, white creme de cacao, blue curacao and cream.

So make your picks and pour your drinks. It’ll be hard to go wrong with these tasty sips — especially if you give in and go for all four. Bottoms up, folks.

Thirsty Thursday: A Beer and a Ball

A Beer and A Ball Cocktail

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too.

Last week we shared a recipe for a Brown Butter Old Fashioned; this week we’re back and tipping our caps to the upcoming Super Bowl with a refreshing beer-based sip.

Throwing back a few cold ones is great and all, but pouring them over ice, along with grapefruit juice, Italian aperitifs and simple syrup instead? Now we’re talking. We call it the Beer and a Ball Cocktail, but don’t be surprised if you end up gravitating towards names like highly addictive and dangerously good. Bottoms up, folks.

Big Game Giveaway: Cheeseboards, Pitchers and Pint Glasses

Giants Cheeseboard

When the New England Patriots and New York Giants meet in Indianapolis on Sunday, February 5th, two of the world’s top teams will leave it all on the field, while we at home, well, we’ll do our best not to leave anything on our plates. It’s football’s biggest stage and tailgating season’s biggest feast. With an eternity’s-worth of time still left to prepare (ok, 11 days to be exact), there simply are no excuses for not bringing your A-game on Super Bowl Sunday.

Chili, wings, chips and dips are all locks for our gameday menus, but a bit of outside-the-bowl thinking has us considering more exotic eats like Pulled Pork Nachos, Crab-Stuffed Potato Skins and Golden Gate Chili Ribs. Then there are the food rivalries, inescapably brought on each time two food-rich cities are pitted one against another, always more exciting with culinary powerhouses like New York and New England. But how could we possibly choose between paying homage to the Giants with homemade pizza and repping the Patriots with a cup ‘o chowda? Simple, we can’t.

Thirsty Thursday: Brown Butter Old Fashioned Cocktail

Brown Butter Old Fashioned

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too.

Last week we shared a recipe for Alie and Georgia’s quirky-cool Drunken Donuts Cocktail; this week we’re back with something a bit more traditional.

Dating all the way back to the early 1880s, the Old Fashioned has become such a classic cocktail it’s even inspired the creation of a corresponding Old Fashioned glass. Centered around smoky bourbon, bitters and an aromatic citrus rind, its orange-kissed hue exudes elegance.

Building off the cocktail’s classy base, this recipe includes brown butter-infused bourbon and maraschino liqueur, a duo of delicious flavors that work beautifully with the bitters and citrus. But be warned: once you’ve sipped on the Brown Butter Old Fashioned, drinking any other variant may never prove as satisfying. Bottoms up, folks.

Last week we shared a recipe for our Silk Sheets Cocktail; this week we’re back with something even edgier.

All this nippy weather has us pining for warmer days, too, but rather than resent the heavy sweaters and itchy scarfs, embrace the cold by coddling a drink that truly embodies the season. With espresso vodka and coffee liqueur, Alie and Georgia’s Drunken Donuts Cocktail isn’t only exactly what you’ll want, it’s exactly the sort of concoction you’ll need this time of year. Sweet, boozy and supped up with a donut for garnish, don’t be surprised if you find yourself reaching for a few more round guys to dunk in. Bottoms up, folks.

Thirsty Thursday: Sink Into a Silk Sheets Cocktail

Silk Sheets Cocktail

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too.

Last week we shared a recipe for our Sparkling Wine Sangria Cocktail; this week we’re back with another refreshing sip for you to savor.

When unusual pairings come together in perfect harmony it’s nearly impossible not to get excited. And that’s exactly what makes the Silk Sheets Cocktail so intriguing. With strawberries, balsamic vinegar and gin as its base, the sweet and tangy sip affords an exotic experience, even before a luxurious coat of St. Germain foam is added over the top. Ideal after a long day, it’s just as refreshing when sipped on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Bottoms up, folks.

Sparkling Wine Sangria

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too.

Last week we shared a recipe for our Prosecco Gold Rush Cocktail; this week we’re back with another bubbly-based concoction to ring in the new year.

When the clock strikes midnight, you can toast with the usual champagne or, better yet, try something new. Raise a glass of sweet, peach-infused sangria made with Cava, a Spanish sparkling wine. A celebration of all things festive, the Sparkling Wine Sangria combines two classic cocktails into one “ooo” and “ahh”-inspiring sip. Bottoms up, folks.
