Happy 4th Birthday, Cooking Channel!

Oh, how the time flies: Today, Cooking Channel turns 4 (!!), and it’s wild to think how much we’ve grown over the last several years. We launched in 2010 as a network (and website) filled with passionate Food People seeking to explore the unconventional, dig into global cuisines and uncover hidden gems. And now that we’re past our toddler years, we can look back on our bounty of new shows and stars, Web-original video series, growing recipe library, and unique food and lifestyle stories, knowing we’ve done just that.

And yet we’ve only scratched the surface. This year, we launched our Adventures in Cooking package: a collection of fun weekend cooking projects for the curious cooks and food geeks who dominate the Food People sector. (We’re talking fermenting kimchi, making bacon from scratch and crafting some seriously creative cakes.) We dug into Dumplings Around the World in honor of the Olympics, made magic fairy dust out of pizza and pastrami (OK, spice mixes that taste just like pizza and pastrami), mashed up your favorite comfort foods and gave you the most epic game plan, ever, for your Super Bowl or game-day party. Speaking of parties: We continue to share the best tips, decorating ideas and recipes for all your entertaining needs. From a last-minute holiday cocktail party to a casual Mediterranean summer fete, our Party in Five series has you covered.

Birthday Breakfast, No Cake Needed

It seems like there’s a birthday every week in the Cooking Channel office. And with the amazing local bakeries plus some very talented employees, that can mean a lot of cake. So in honor of our latest birthday girl (and her upcoming trip to Greece), cake was swapped for yogurt and a birthday breakfast was held in the conference room.

Instead of peanut butter pies and yellow cake with vanilla frosting, we ate individual portions of Greek yogurt covered in fruity and crunchy toppings. Take these yogurt and topping combos and make your own breakfast bar at home or for a birthday. You may find you won’t miss the cake – this week, at least.

Twice as Nice: Happy 2nd Birthday, Cooking Channel!

Cue the candles and the bubbly pairing for that barbecueCooking Channel turns 2 this weekend. Ready yourself; here come the proud-mama clichés: So big, so fast! So young still, but so smart! It seems like just yesterday we were brand-new on air and just a wee blog online. As much as maturing, we’re still by Food People for Food People.

Remember that first blog post? Okay, you prolly don’t (again that parental pride). Anyhow, as we launched, Cooking Channel General Manager Michael Smith touted our game plan: “Together we’re going to find more ways to explore food and cooking, including the unconventional, how-to, global cuisines, wines and spirits, international travel, history and hidden gems, and even some classic favorites.” Over a couple dozen months we’ve been spinning the globe and peeking and poking and pondering and powering our way from cook to cook, cuisine by cuisine, city by city. We’re becoming the food destination to watch, finding what to eat and drink here on our site, on Facebook, on Twitter and on Pinterest and discovering the best of what to watch, whether it’s on television or with fun (and funny) original series here on our site—Trend Alert, anyone? Fodder for thought…

Stay tuned for even more hot shows this summer.
