I have a dark confession to make: I loathe holiday cookies. (I know, the horror!) Don’t get me wrong; I appreciate a family bake-a-thon as much as the next gal and I truly believe that homemade presents are the ultimate gift of love. But other than that, I just don’t get the obsession. Please tell me I’m not the only one.

Despite my aversion to candy-covered gingerbread men and peppermint-laden pinwheels, I’m no grumpy scrooge. I knew I would eventually have to slay my inner Christmas-cookie monster, so this year, I’m turning over a new leaf.

I set out to create a fun holiday-worthy recipe that’s delicious enough to be enjoyed all year-round: no dried fruits or spices here. When I started brainstorming, all I could think about were those little pink- and white-frosted animal cookies I used to devour as a child. And that’s when the light bulb went off; I could try to recreate the famous Mother’s Circus Animal Cookies in cute little holiday shapes!

You might know Tamala Jones from the #1 ABC Drama Series Castle, where she plays the sassy, smart and totally sexy Medical Examiner Lanie Parish:

In real life, after suffering a life-threatening aneurysm at age 23, Tamala is a huge advocate of women’s health and educating her peers about the importance of annual check-ups and healthy lifestyle choices. Inspired by her grandmother, who is a foster parent, Jones spends her time off-camera with The Rosemary Children’s Services, one of the oldest West Coast charities that helps over 400 foster youth annually who have suffered abuse, neglect and abandonment. Tamala’s grandmother also sparked the actress’s passion for cooking, teaching Tamala her first recipe at just 14 years of age.

Speaking of cooking, Tamala’s recipe for Chocolate Chip, Pecan and Toffee Cookies has us buzzing: these sweet treats deserve a spot on your holiday dessert spread.

Curious what President Obama and his family are eating for the holidays? After dinner, they’re definitely sampling one of White House pastry Chef Bill Yosses‘ delicious desserts. After attending cooking school at New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn, Chef Yosses’ first job was at La Foux d’Alose in Paris. He now works with the First Lady on her Let’s Move! initiative to eliminate childhood obesity within a generation.

His special holiday confection, Molasses Spice Cookies, are full of cinnamon, allspice and molasses — a new, delicious take on the traditional gingersnap cookie.

Mira Sorvino is an Oscar-winning actress (she took the prize for best supporting actress for her role in the 1995 movie, Mighty Aphrodite); you may also remember her as Romy, from Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion. Her father, actor Paul Sorvino is most recognizable from his role as Paulie Cicero in Goodfellas (you know, the guy who slices garlic with a razor blade). In 2006, Paul was diagnosed with diabetes. He immediately gained the support of his family as he changed his lifestyle and began eating healthier foods and exercising. Paul and Mira work together in the kitchen, on the dance floor and on the diabetes lifestyle site DiabetesCostars.com to help Paul and millions of other Americans cope with diabetes.
