Cookbook Giveaway: Savory Sweet Life

Celebrate Sunday mornings with this make-ahead French Toast Casserole from Savory Sweet Life.

The charming, friendly writing and vivid photography of the popular blog Savory Sweet Life translates beautifully to print in Alice Currah’s new cookbook, Savory Sweet Life: 100 Simply Delicious Recipes for Every Family Occasion. Alice, a blogger, wife and mother of three, shares easy, fuss-free meals and treats meant for enjoying with friends and family.

I adore how recipes in this cookbook are organized by everyday occasions, like Father’s Day, a Tween Birthday Bash, Snow Day, Family Game Night and, my favorite, Sunday Mornings. The recipes in each section are meant to serve as inspirations rather than complete menus, but you’ll be tempted to make them all. These are the dishes that family food traditions are made of – simple and delicious recipes that will make any day special.

Cookbook Giveaway: Hello, Jell-O!

The Classic Rainbow Mold from Hello, Jello! is a tasty work of art. Photograph by Angie Cao.

Make this the summer you re-discover Jell-O (What could be more fun?) with the help of blogger and Jell-O Mold Mistress Victoria Belanger and her new cookbook, Hello, Jell-O!:50+ Inventive Recipes for Gelatin Treats and Jiggly Sweets. With creative flavor combinations, the addition of cream or fresh fruit, layered effects and sometimes a little alcohol, Victoria has successfully reinvented the nostalgic Jell-O of your childhood into dinner party/get-together fare that’s sure to impress.

Victoria begins Hello, Jell-O! with some essential tips and techniques, and then divides the book into styles of Jell-O molds, from “Creamy and Dreamy” and “Boozy Molds” to “Seasonal Holiday Molds.” There’s a Jell-O recipe for every occasion, and your next grill out or summer bash is the perfect place to start.

Cookbook Giveaway: Momofuku Milk Bar

Momofuku Cereal Milk Soft Serve

I love fried chicken and burgers as much as the next gal, but I’m a sweet tooth at heart, so the Momofuku Milk Bar Desserts seminar was my personal highlight from the New York City Wine & Food Festival last month. This was not your average dessert binge-fest. Rock star pastry chef Christina Tosi of the New York-based Momofuku mini-empire teamed up with wine aficionado Andrea Robinson for an hour of dessert-and-vino pairing, tasting and chatting.Momofuku Milk Bar Cover

In addition to plenty of useful takeaways — no need to limit yourself to dessert wines with dessert; Champagne tastes fabulous with chocolate-chip cake; Chardonnay and pumpkin make a perfect marriage — attendees also scored advance copies of Tosi’s Momofuku Milk Bar cookbook, just released last week. Now that it’s hot off the press, we’re giving away a copy!

Christina’s Compost Cookies, Cereal Milk and Crack Pie have achieved cult followings in Milk Bar’s three short years of existence, but pretty much everything she dreams up, no matter how out-of-the-box it may sound (kimchi-and-blue-cheese croissants, anyone?), tastes divine. All of the above are in the Milk Bar cookbook, so you can try your hand at any of the utterly addictive sweets from Christina’s unique bakery.
