Thirsty Thursday: Cucumber-Jalapeño Margarita

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too. A hard thing to disagree with, we know. Drink up, get down and go to sleep happy.

Margaritas — a staple summer beverage if there ever was one — are just meant to combat the hot, sticky dog days of summer. While a classic margarita is perfectly delicious in itself, there is also so much potential for adding other exciting flavors.

Take, for example, this Cucumber-Jalapeño Margarita. The traditional fresh lime juice and silver tequila are mixed with savory slices of cucumber and fiery halved jalapeños. The intensity of the spiciness is up to you: the longer it sits and chills, the spicier it becomes. Perhaps this is what it means to fight fire with fire.

Bottoms up, folks!

Thirsty Thursday: A Drink for Margarita March

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too. A hard thing to disagree with, we know. Drink up, get down and go to sleep happy.

Step into spring with a margarita before March is over, because we need to celebrate the alliteration that keeps us drinking: Margarita March. Since you can’t go wrong with a classic margarita, we’re going for Rick Bayless’ refreshing Top-of-the-Line Margarita. He ditches the sugary mix for orange liqueur and fresh lime juice to give this cocktail a well-balanced sweetness that doesn’t make you pucker. Just shake in some tequila, then pour it into cocktail glasses rimmed with flaky salt and celebrate Margarita March Madness.

Bottoms up, folks.

Thirsty Thursday: Chipotle Grapefruit Margarita for National Margarita Day

As the Olympics draw to a close and we honor our nation’s athletes, let’s not forget to celebrate another important national event; that is, National Margarita Day. Pull out the tequila and get mixing, because February 22 marks a national holiday that pays tribute to our favorite frosty cocktail.

Celebrate the coveted mixture of tequila and triple sec by whipping up this seasonal and spicy Chipotle Grapefruit Margarita. Since citrus is in season, ruby red grapefruit makes a wonderful partner with smoky chipotle powder. In a cocktail shaker, mix grapefruit juice, tequila, orange liqueur and a pinch of chipotle powder for a stunning orange hue. Shake with ice, and pour into a cocktail glass rimmed with chipotle salt and a grapefruit garnish. This cocktail is sure to get your margarita celebrations off to a good start!

Bottoms up, folks!

Thirsty Thursday: Kick Off Cinco de Mayo Weekend with a Margarita

T-minus three days to Cinco de Mayo! Ole! It’s time to start thinking about guacamoles, salsas, and of course the iconic and refreshing margarita. Can’t wait until Sunday to start the fiesta? Here’s a Frozen Mango Margarita to get you sipping.

Frozen, diced mango offers a punch of sweet flavor while also acting as ice cubes in this blended margarita. Forgo the horrible sweet-and-sour-mix for fresh lime juice to transform this cocktail into something citrusy and stunning. And it simply wouldn’t be a margarita without cool, silver tequila and Cointreau. The directions are simple: just blend until smooth and serve with some delicious food.

Get ready for the weekend and turn out pitchers of our favorite cocktail from south of the border.

Bottoms up, Amigos!

Thirsty Thursday: Margarita March

This month I’ve been celebrating Margarita March. It’s not an official holiday (yet), but this alliteration is enough to make me pull out the tequila and limes to make this classic concoction.

Meet margaritas more playful side with these cool, bite-sized Margarita Jell-O Shots.  Lime green and jiggly, these little shots pack a punch and are great to make for a crowd. They are easily adaptable to incorporate other flavors, so try using strawberry or raspberry Jell-O for a fruity-flavored margarita.

Just combine your Jell-O flavor of choice with tequila, freshly squeezed lime juice and triple sec and refrigerate until set. Ditch the small plastic cups and cut the Jell-O shots into cubes, so you can easily pop them in your mouth.

P.S. These would make a festive addition to your St. Paddy’s Day celebration!

Bottoms up, folks.

Thirsty Thursday: Whole Citrus Margaritas

Cold, winter months usually make me long for something light and refreshing to break up the heavy and hearty meals. It’s easy to forget that citrus season is now at its peak, so get ready to capture the full, brilliant flavor of winter’s bounty in an alcoholic beverage. Freshly juiced navel oranges, limes and lemons will bring a stunning citrus-y flavor to this margarita mixture of Cointreau, Triple Sec, and tequila. Though it may seem foolish to break out the blender for frozen margaritas mid-winter, there’s really no better time to turn out pitchers of these frosty Whole Citrus Margaritas.

Want to switch it up? This drink can be made on the rocks. And since freshness is key, the recipe can also be adjusted to whatever citrus fruit is freshest and available at your grocery store. Don’t be afraid to swap in tangerines, blood oranges, key limes or Meyer lemons.

Bottoms up, folks.
