From February 20-23, Miami will host one of the biggest food events of the year, The Food Network SOBE WFF. It will be a good place to be because — aside from it being so much warmer in South Beach than pretty much anywhere else — the fest is its own vortex of taste bud-pleasuring fantasy. Want to eat as many burgers as you can in 3 hours from some of the best burger restaurants in the country? There’s an event for that. Want to jam out to classic rock with Sammy Hagar while Emeril Lagasse serves you unlimited tequila and rum drinks? There’s an event for that. Actually, there will be over 70 events where attendees can sample food made by some of the most talented chefs in the biz. Here are just 12 of the dozens and dozens of famous food people you can hang out with there: Bobby Deen, Giada De Laurentiis, Tyler Florence, Alex Guarnaschelli, Robert Irvine, Debi Mazar & Gabriele Corcos, Spike Mendelsohn, Kelsey Nixon, Rachael Ray, Mo Rocca and Michael Symon.

Unless you’re into things like delicious food, hanging out on a warm and sunny beach in the middle of winter and mingling with awesome celebrity chefs, The South Beach Food & Wine Festival
probably isn’t for you. The event still has a lot to offer the other one of you, though … like volleyball tournaments. Spike Mendelsohn
, of Next Iron Chef
notoriety, hosted the Let’s Get Spiked Volleyball Tournament
today where four teams comprised of food people like Alex Guarnaschelli, Justin Warner and Pat LaFrieda took to the sand to take a pass at a different kind of serving.
It turns out that a lot of chefs suck at sports. But you know who didn’t suck? Cooking Channel’s own Chuck Hughes who brought home the gold medal along with his teammates Josh Capon, Andrew Zimmern and Kris Wessel. Congratulations, Chuck. Maybe one day you’ll find something you’re not good at. For now, why don’t you take a day off.

Sometimes life is hard, but last weekend wasn’t one of those times: Cooking Channel staff ate their way through a sea of local Miami restaurant stalls and sipped on world-class wine during this year’s Wine and Food Festival Grand Tasting — all on the white sands of South Beach, Miami.
Now that we’re back to colder weather and cubicles, we’re dreaming up ways to continue the “South Beach Diet” at home. Now you can, too!
See what we liked, what we didn’t like, and how to cook up South Beach-inspired fare in your own kitchen.
