Thirsty Thursday: Zombie Cocktail

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too. A hard thing to disagree with, we know. Drink up, get down and go to sleep happy.

Halloween is one week away, which means it’s time to pick out a pumpkin, finalize the details of your costume and, of course, host a well-themed, spooky soiree.

Add some wickedness to your Halloween festivities with this post-apocalyptic Zombie Cocktail, a powerful brew of apricot brandy, three kinds of rum and orange juice. Be warned, the festive jack-o-lantern hue may seem innocent enough, but this punch is bound to wake up the undead.

Boo-ttoms up, folks.

October marks the official beginning of pie season (at least by my calendar), and in case you’re looking for a new and inventive way to get your pie fix (aren’t we all?), look no further than Alie and Georgia’s creative Apple of My Pie cocktail.

This weirdly delicious concoction is made with apple brandy, cinnamon liqueur, and a whole thick wedge of streusel-topped apple pie. Buttery crust, fragrant filling and all gets blended with the booze until smooth and delicious. For a truly all-American experience, garnish with cheddar. It’s the perfect way to curb your pie cravings. Oh, and the best part? Eating the rest of the pie alongside your cocktail.

Bottoms up, folks.

What to do when the hot summer days are behind us, and those slushy, boozed-up punches with party straws and umbrellas are no longer fitting for the season? Well, we stir ourselves up a fall-fashioned cocktail to welcome in the new season!

Now that it’s officially fall and we are swapping in amber leaves for summer sun, try this cocktail with a deep, burnt-orange hue that mimics Autumn Colors. This fall-inspired sip gets its color from pomegranate liqueur and sweet ice tea mixed with vodka and orange zest. Its crisp taste reminds us of the cooling air that characterizes the fall harvest season.

Bottoms up, folks.

Thirsty Thursday: Earl Grey Spritzer

Tea time meets happy hour in this mild and well-balanced Earl Grey Spritzer. Naturally light and refreshing, this cocktail isn’t ready to give up on the still-warm summer air even as it slowly fades into autumn.

Start by steeping Earl Grey tea bags in homemade simple syrup and allow the mild bitterness of the tea to be fully infused in the sweet mixture. Then spoon this Early Grey simple syrup into tall glasses and top with chilled Champagne or sparkling wine. Cool, crisp and bubbly, this is the kind of cocktail we image you to have at a brunch fit for a queen.

Bottoms up, folks.

Thirsty Thursday: Easy Rum Cocktails for Labor Day Weekend

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too. A hard thing to disagree with, we know. Drink up, get down and go to sleep happy.

Weekends are important, especially the sun-dappled, backyard barbecue kinds of weekends that characterize summer. While Labor Day is the symbolic end of summer, (after this, school starts, the weather cools down and berry picking gives way to apple picking) take this extra-long weekend to relax in the warm weather with rum-filled, late-summer sippers.

We’re thinking of rum-y cocktails that pair well with sweet and sticky ribs, kabobs, grilled burgers and seasonal produce. From minty mojitos to dynamic daiquiris, rum is our spirit of choice when it comes to showcasing some refreshing flavors.

Bottoms up, folks.

Thirsty Thursday: Sgroppino (aka A Boozy Sorbet Punch)

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too. A hard thing to disagree with, we know. Drink up, get down and go to sleep happy.

Sgroppino is a traditional palate-cleansing Italian cocktail versatile enough to be served as an aperitif, with dessert or as a brunch beverage. This cocktail is a slushy mixture of prosecco, vodka and lemon sorbet, with chopped fresh mint as garnish. Flawlessly bubbly and lemony, this four-ingredient mixer’s simplicity and its bright and clean flavors make it an ideal cocktail for summer sipping.

The mixing method is simple: pour chilled prosecco and vodka into glasses, and drop a melty scoop of sweet lemon sorbet to float on top. The sorbet will slowly relax into the fizzy mixture, creating a frothy, chilly punch perfect for enjoying on hot afternoons.

Bottoms up, folks.

Thirsty Thursday: Two-toned Tequila Sangria

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too. A hard thing to disagree with, we know. Drink up, get down and go to sleep happy.

Let me introduce you to a cocktail so stunning and delicious, it should probably be nominated as the official boozy beverage of summer. If you love sangria (and who doesn’t love sangria?), then you’ll find this amped-up, two-toned Tequila Sangria truly refreshing. This pioneering cocktail has all the flavors that make up red wine sangria, but it gets an extra oomph from tequila and sweet elderflower liqueur.

Let’s think about what that means for a moment: pineapple juice, tequila and elderflower liqueur (alternatively, you could try this with ginger or peach liqueur) make up the tasty base of this summery sipper. Then add a hodgepodge of tropical fruits and seasonal berries and top with bold Rioja. The deep purple of the Rioja against the backdrop of bright yellow pineapple juice will give you a dramatic-looking cocktail that subtly changes with each sip.

Bottoms up, folks.

Thirsty Thursday: Peach Julep

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too. A hard thing to disagree with, we know. Drink up, get down and go to sleep happy.

Bourbon is an important component to the beloved, Southern mint julep, but nothing is quite as crucial as ice. Lots of cold crushed ice makes this sultry cocktail bracingly frosty as the ice slowly melts, taming the astringency of the smoky bourbon.

While there are many variations of this crushed ice classic, this updated version swaps in sweet peach liqueur for the typical simple syrup. Mix two parts bourbon with one part peach liqueur in a glass, fill with ice to the top and squeeze an orange peel over the beverage for added dimension and fragrance. Finally, a julep wouldn’t be complete without a garnish of fresh mint. Sip a chilled glass of this peachy, warm-weather cocktail at any summer get-together or barbecue.

Bottoms up, folks.

Thirsty Thursday: Mojito Slushy

Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too. A hard thing to disagree with, we know. It’s no secret that mint and lime offer depth and refreshment to summer cocktails, and in this version of the popular Cuban cocktail, fresh mint leaves and lime zest are the star ingredients.

This rum refresher gets an extra-cold update when you blend plenty of crushed ice with lime zest, fresh mint and rum to a slushy-like consistency. The bright and sweet flavor of this mojito makes it the perfect boozy summer dessert.

Bottoms up, folks.

Thirsty Thursday: Limoncello Spritzer

It’s more than just alliteration; it’s a statement, a proclamation that Thursdays are when the weekend should really start. Kicking it off right is the key, and what better way than with a cocktail that not only takes the edge off, but tastes good too. A hard thing to disagree with, we know. Since seasonal fruits are now a part of my cocktail-making repertoire, I wouldn’t want to miss an opportunity to add juicy, ruby-red raspberries to this Limoncello Spritzer before it’s too late. Versatile enough to make for a sophisticated brunch, but also laid-back enough for an outdoor cookout, this well-balanced bevvy is appropriate for any time of day.

Raspberries are pureed into a sweet pulp and mixed with two Italian favorites: limoncello and Prosecco. The limoncello tastes like lush lemons and bright sunshine, and the Prosecco adds refreshing effervescence to this sweet elixir. This three-ingredient punch captures everything we love about summer.

Bottoms up, folks.
